District administration to lift restrictions following improved security conditions

Rangamati Correspondent:

After a 24-day pause, the Rangamati district administration is set to lift its advisory discouraging tourism in the Rangamati hill district, effective from Friday.

During a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Md Mosharraf Hossain Khan announced that tourism in Rangamati will resume based on the current favourable law and order situation in the district.

The district administration had earlier urged tourists to refrain from visiting Rangamati from October 8 to October 31.

Similar advisories were issued for the other hill districts of Khagrachari and Bandarban.

Previously, on September 25, the district administration had discouraged visits to Sajek, followed by an advisory covering the entire district.

The advisory was initially put in place following clashes after the lynching of a young man named Mamun on August 18 in Khagrachhari, which led to unrest across Khagrachhari, and Rangamati.

The clashes resulted in four deaths, numerous injuries, and damage to businesses and religious sites in the two affected districts.
