A protest rally was held at Chowrasta intersection of Sirajganj town on Tuesday noon under the banner of Anti-discrimination Students Movement to press home three point demands including reform of adviser parishad and appointment of new adviser from northern region particularly from Sirajganj.
The programme was presided over Jubair Al Islam, Coordinator of Anti-discrimination Student Movement’s Sirajganj district unit, while TM Mushfique, Yeasir Arafat and Sajib Sarker among others spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said, “Students lost their lives during the movement and people of the country have got a new Bangladesh in exchange of many lives of students and people. During the movement, many students and people took part from northern region especially from Sirajganj. But we did not get any fruitful result against our sacrifice. No one from Sirajganj or even from northern region has been appointed as adviser so far. This is why, we want immediate steps to recruit an adviser from Sirajganj or northern region.”
The demonstrators also threatened to paralyze the northern region by putting barricade on the Bangabandhu Jamuna bridge, if their demands are not met as soon as possible.
