At least four people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a pick-up van in front of Malauri Primary school on Tangail-Jamalpur regional highway at Modhupur upazila on Tuesday morning.

Police identified the deceased as Rabiul Islam, 28, son of Atar Ali from village Mohammadpur of Islampur upazila under Jamalpur district, Baraillah, 42, son of Sadhu Mia of the same upazila, Pick-up driver Sujan Mia, 35 and Amjad Hossen, 28, son of helper Kashem Ali.

The accident took place in the area around 5.30am as a Dhaka bound passenger bus of Binimoy company collided head-on with a Jamalpur bound pick-up coming from opposite site, killing two people on the spot, said Russel Ahmed, Inspector(investigation) of Modhupur Police Station.

The other two seriously injured persons were declared dead on arrival at Modhupur Upazila health complex.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Taingail General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was lodged with the respective police station in this connection.
