The Election Reform Commission has proposed several recommendations, including a direct presidential election, repealing the system of elected unopposed and returning to the no-vote system.
The commission also recommended ensuring transparency in the funds spent by candidates for electioneering.
Badiul Alam Majumder, chief of the commission, disclosed the recommendations while addressing a press conference at the Election Bhaban in Agargaon area of Dhaka on Saturday.
During the discussion with the commission, many stakeholders recommended direct election for the presidential post, many of them also favored direct elections in all forms of the vote while others expressed support for non-partisan local body elections, he said.
Suggestions came from different quarters to appoint the chief election commissioner and other commissioners based on political consensus, he said.
The issue of using technologies, including Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) in the election was also discussed during the meeting of the Election Reform Commission, he said.
