Newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Md Nasir Uddin on Sunday expressed confidence in being able to deliver a credible, free and fair election.
Speaking after taking oath before the Chief Justice on November 24 at the Supreme Court, he said, “I have a very efficient team of election commissioners. We will not be able to do it alone, but with the cooperation of everyone, including the media, and the support of the people and political parties. Together, we will provide the nation with a free, fair, and credible election.”
On the timing of the election, he said it would be held after completing the necessary reforms in the Election Commission.
“It is not possible to say exactly when the election will be held. We will complete the required reforms first. I will take up my responsibilities, understand the tasks, and then proceed accordingly,” he said.
The CEC further said, “Previous Election Commissions violated their oaths, but I will not do that. I consider this role as a great opportunity in my life, an opportunity to serve the nation.”
