A disaster mock drill was held at Delua Boat Ghat area in Belkuchi Upazila of Sirajganj district to enhance community awareness and preparedness for flood response.
About 1,000 individuals from different flood-prone areas including Delua, Belkuchi East, Chhotoberakharua, Dashkhada, Mulkandi and Aguria villages of the upazila took part in the event, a press release revealed.
Members of the Union Disaster Management Committee (UDMC) and Ward Disaster Management Committees (WDMCs) played vital role in the drill in presence of Belkuchi Sadar Union Panel Chairman Abdul Quddus Bhutto, the Deputy Director and Project Focal of MMS Zehin Ahmed Setu and other representatives from the local government and relevant organizations.
Live saving forces of the Fire Service and Civil Defense in Belkuchi unit along with other volunteers from disaster management committees facilitated the drill.
Key activities included safe evacuation of flood-affected families, rescue operations for boat accidents, emergency first aid for injured individuals and a fire safety demonstration. These activities aimed to strengthen the community’s as well as DMCs capacity to respond to disasters effectively.
The Mock Drill was part of the project “Enhancing Disaster Resilience Capacity of the Monsoon Flood Affected Population in Sirajganj district of the country,” implemented by Manab Mukti Sangstha (MMS) with the funding of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and supported by the Oxfam GB.
