At least five people were killed in two separate road accidents in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla on Saturday morning.
Two day labourers were killed when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Al-Arafa Paribahan’ collided with a brick-laden tractor at 7.30AM on the Dhaka-Kachua road near Shaistanagar on Cumilla.
The tractor overturned and two brick kiln labourers died on the spot.
The deceased were — Borhan, 28, son of Gias Uddin of Lakshmipur village of the upazila and Mohammad Ali, 32, son of Syed Ali of Jamalpur Sadar.
Gauripur Investigation Center Police Sub-Inspector Md Helal said that they have seized the vehicles and the process is underway to hand over the bodies to their family members.
Meanwhile, three passengers of an auto-rickshaw, including a child and two women, were killed when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Anirban Paribahan’ collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw near Daulatpur bus stand on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at around 10.30 AM.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Eliotganj Highway Police Dewan Kaushik Ahmed said Dolly Akhter, 30, one of the passengers, died on the spot.
Other injured passengers and drivers were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where Ziana Akhter, 11, and Jahanara Begum, 60, succumbed to their injuries. All three victims were residents of the neighbouring Basra village.
He said that they seized vehicles involved in the accidents.
