Rapid Action Battalion chief Additional Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidur Rahman has acknowledged the existence of its “Aynaghor,” saying it remains as it was, under the directives of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearance.

Shahidur was speaking to reporters during a press conference at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar of Dhaka on Thursday.

“The issue of RAB’s ‘Aynaghor’ has been brought up; it was there, and it still is,” he said in response to a question.

Aynaghor is a colloquial term referring to a network of secret detention centres operated by security forces in Bangladesh.

Addressing allegations of enforced disappearances, killings, ‘Aynaghor’ and other issues involving RAB, the force’s director general said the commission was actively investigating these matters.

“We are providing all necessary support on behalf of RAB. We believe that legal actions will be taken based on the results of the investigation,” he added.

“The commission directed that ‘Aynaghor’ and other aspects remain unchanged as they are. We have made no modifications or alterations. Everything remains in its original state.”
