IGP Mamun, Ziaul produced before ICT

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and former Director General of NTMC Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in the July-August ‘genocide’ case.

They were brought to the tribunal in a prison van from Keraniganj Central Jail at 9:45 am on Thursday. Five other police officers will also be brought to the tribunal in the same case.

A three-member tribunal headed by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder will conduct a hearing of their case.

Earlier, on November 20, the tribunal ordered the completion of the investigation against eight officials, including the former police chief and former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), in a case filed on charges of crimes against humanity in the July-August genocide. At the same time, the court ordered them to be kept in jail in the tribunal case.

The next hearing of the case was fixed for December 19. On that day, a three-member tribunal led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder gave the order.

Earlier, eight officials, including the former police chief and former director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC), were arrested in a case filed on charges of crimes against humanity in the July-August massacre.

They are – former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former NTMC director general Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan, former Dhaka district police superintendent Md. Abdullah Al Kafi, former Mirpur DMP DC Md. Jasim Uddin Mollah, former Dhaka additional superintendent (Savar Circle) Md. Shahidur Islam, former OC of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan, former OC of Gulshan Police Station Mazharul Haque, and former inspector of Dhaka North DB Md. Arafat Hossain.

On October 27, a three-member tribunal led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder approved the prosecution’s application and ordered the production of these 8 officers.

Arrest warrants were issued against 17 former police officers in a case of crimes against humanity and they were ordered to appear before the International Crimes Tribunal on November 20. Those who are arrested will be brought to the tribunal.
