A one-year-old girl-child tragically lost her life in a fire that broke out at a house in Shimultala, Baraigram upazila of Natore district, early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Aliza Khatun, granddaughter of Kayes Mollah of the upazila.

According to Akram Hossain, station officer of Banpara Fire Service, the fire erupted at the house around midnight and quickly spread.

Upon receiving the information, a firefighting unit rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze.

While all other residents managed to escape, Aliza was unable to make it out, and six houses were gutted in the incident.

Later, police recovered Aliza’s charred body from the house.

Authorities suspect the fire originated from an electrical short circuit, but investigations are ongoing to confirm the cause.
