Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday that a letter has been sent to the foreign affairs ministry regarding the return of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina from India.

“We have sent a letter to the foreign affairs ministry for her extradition. This process is underway,” he said, in response to a query from journalists at a function at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in the capital.

Replying to another query, the adviser said Bangladesh has an extradition treaty with India, and she will be brought back following the treaty.

In response to a question about the fresh entry of 60,000 Rohingyas, the home adviser said it was not just in the past two months but over the last 1.5 to 2 years 60,000 Rohingyas have entered the country.
