FF greeted with garland of shoes, order to take action

The government has ordered an investigation and prosecution of those involved in the incident of greeting with garland of shoes of a freedom fighter in Cumilla. The government has strongly condemned the incident of defamation of the freedom fighter.

This information was provided by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Monday.

Citing local police, the Press Wing said that freedom fighter Abdul Hai is accused in 9 cases, including the murder.

We urge everyone to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The police and local administration have been asked to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Adviser Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that those involved in the incident of greeting with a shoe garland of the freedom fighter will be brought under the law. He said, “Those who committed this are criminals. They must be brought under the law.”

He said this at a medal presentation ceremony marking BGB Day at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana in the capital on Monday.

In a video that recently went viral, some youths can be seen putting a garland of shoes around Abdul Hai Kanu’s neck. At that time, someone from the side is asking him to leave the house.

Another said, to get out of Cumilla. At this time, when Abdul Hai Kanu pleaded and said not to leave the house, a middle-aged man said, ‘Have we managed to stay at home for so many years?’ At this time, another said, ‘Can you apologize to the people of the entire village?’ At this time, he folded his hands and apologized to everyone. At one point, two people took him by both hands and led him forward.

Brave freedom fighter Abdul Hai Kanu is a resident of Ludiara village in Batisa union of Chauddagram upazila of the district.

It is worth mentioning that on Sunday (December 22) afternoon, Abdul Hai was humiliated by putting a garland of shoes in front of the Kuliara Government Primary School in Batisa Union of Chauddagram Upazila. At the same time, he was also threatened to leave the area. A video of such an incident went viral on Facebook.

Local sources said Abdul Hai is a member of the central committee of the Krishak League. He was previously involved in several cases related to his conflict with local MP Mujibul Haque.

Chauddagram Police Station OC ATM Aktaruzzaman said, “After the incident, Abdul Hai informed me about the matter over the phone. However, he said he would not file a complaint about it. But since the video went viral at night, he has been asked to file a complaint again. Whether he will file a complaint or not, it is not yet certain.”
