A seven-member committee has been formed to prepare a budget proposal for the housing allowance of Jagannath University students.

The committee has been instructed to submit its report within 20 working days.

This was announced in a notice signed by the university’s registrar, Professor Dr Mohammad Sheikh Gias Uddin, on Sunday.

The committee will be chaired by the university’s treasurer, Professor Dr Sabina Sharmin, with Dr Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Director of the Finance and Accounts Department, serving as the member secretary.

The other members of the committee are Proctor Professor Dr Tajammul Haque, Director of Student Welfare Dr KAM Rifat Hasan, Professor Dr Mohammad Bilal Hossain from the History Department, Associate Professor Nasir Uddin Ahmed from the English Department, and Associate Professor Mohammad Asaduzzaman Sadi from the Law Department.

Students of Jagannath University began a hunger strike on January 12 to demand three issues.

The following Monday afternoon, the students continued their strike in front of the Secretariat.

After receiving written assurances that two of their demands would be met, they ended their hunger strike.
