A man claiming to be a former colleague of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has been arrested for fraud and extortion.

Demra Police apprehended Kamal Khan, also known as Shah Kamal Khan, 46, in the Matuail flyover area of Dhaka on Saturday, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed.

Citing local police, he said: “Police Inspector (Urban and Traffic) GM Musa Kalimullah, working in the Traffic Demra Zone, was on duty in the Ranimahal area of Demra on Thursday afternoon. At that time, Kamal called him, introducing himself as a former colleague of the chief adviser, a journalist, and a political figure, demanding a bribe of Tk10,000.”

“Kamal threatened to lodge complaints against him with the IGP Complaint Cell, the home adviser, and other senior officials if the money was not paid. Upon consulting his colleagues, the inspector discovered that Kamal had previously made similar demands from other police officers,” Talebur added.

Subsequently, with the help of the Demra Traffic Zone Police, Kamal was lured to the Matuail flyover area on Saturday and arrested.

Following this, Inspector Musa filed a fraud and extortion case against him at Demra police station.

According to police sources, during preliminary interrogation, Kamal confessed to his crimes.
