National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s grandson Babul Kazi has been placed on life support as his health condition has further deteriorated, according to Dr Maruful Islam, acting director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

He was placed on life support late Saturday night. Earlier, a 16-member medical board had been formed for his treatment.

Doctors said Babul Kazi’s condition is critical.

On Saturday morning, Babul Kazi suffered burns due to a gas lighter explosion in the bathroom of his home.

In critical condition, he was admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident doctor of the institute’s emergency department, reported that 74% of Babul Kazi’s body has been burned.
