$30,000 cash, Indian goods seized at Benapole border

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized $30,000 cash, and various Indian goods worth approximately Tk40.5 lakh during raids in the border areas in Benapole, Jashore on Saturday night.

Lt Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, commanding officer of the Jashore 49 BGB Battalion, confirmed the raids along a section of Benapole border in a press release on Sunday.

According to the press release, on a tip-off, BGB conducted an anti-smuggling operation at Shahjadpur area on Saturday night.

Sensing the presence of BGB personnel, two alleged smugglers jumped into a nearby river to escape, leaving behind a towel-wrapped package on the river bank.

BGB RECOVERED $30,000 CASH FROM THE PACKAGE.

Additionally, the BGB’s Benapole BOP conducted anti-smuggling and anti-drug operations at Amrakhali checkpoint and adjacent border points on the same night.

They seized Indian liquor, various medicines, betel nut products, cigarettes, and a variety of cosmetic items.

The total value of the seized goods is estimated to be around Tk40 lakh 52 thousand.
