Fifteen workers were injured in an explosion of an electronic mini boiler at the HDF Apparels Limited factory in Sreepur, Gazipur.

The incident occurred at around 9am on Monday in the sample room of the factory located in the Jainabazar area.

Sohel Rana, the factory’s electric in-charge, explained that the mini boiler in the sample room was switched on by the operator at around 8am.

The boiler overheated and exploded due to a lack of water in the tank or issues with the water pump.

At around 9am, the mini boiler in the sample section suddenly exploded with a loud bang.

The explosion caused boiler parts to scatter throughout the room, damaging glass windows, cabinets, tables, fans, lights and other equipment.

Several workers were injured by broken glass and while rushing to escape.

Workers Taiz Uddin and Kamal Hossain reported hearing a loud noise from the sample section while working in the morning.

They later learned of the explosion, which punctured the tin roof of the factory and caused injuries from broken glass.

Shahjahan, a swing receive-man who was injured in the incident, said the mini boiler was located near the entrance gate of the production shed.

The injured workers include Sample Supervisor Rois Uddin, 28, Sujan Mia, 26, Rahij Uddin, 27, Shukur, 30, Yasin Ali, 20, Shahjahan, 24, Suniya, 23, Sarjina, 25, Kulsum, 27, Amena, 29, Lima, 29, Rois Uddin, 26, Iqbal Hossain, 30, Roni, 23 and Ariful Islam, 24.

They were provided treatment at local clinics, including Al Hera Hospital at Maona Chowrasta.

Yasin Ali, who sustained severe injuries, was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital by his family.

Imtiaz Alam, the assistant general manager (AGM) of HDF Apparels Limited, confirmed that 15 workers suffered minor injuries.

Dr Alim Biswas of Al Hera Hospital said that several injured workers were brought to the hospital and treated, but none sustained critical injuries.

The factory management is ensuring their medical treatment.

Joynal Abedin Mondal, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur police station, said that the boiler explosion injured several workers.

Police, along with industrial police, are present at the scene.

The extent of the damage will be assessed by the fire service.
