The finance ministry on Wednesday issued a notification removing a cap on overtime pay for assistant train drivers, meeting a key demand of the railway running staff hours after they called off their strike.

Earlier, around 3am Wednesday, the running staff withdrew their indefinite work abstention movement on assurances from the railways adviser that their overtime pay benefits, suspended since 2021, would be resumed shortly.

From now, the assistant train drivers would get as much as they work beyond fixed working hours. As per the 2021 order issued by Awami League authoritarian government, the assistant drivers could not earn more than their monthly basic salary for overtime work.
