Hundreds of people from all walks of life including teachers, students, businessmen, politicians and socio-cultural activists formed a human chain at Sakhipur intersection in Debhata upazila of Satkhira district on Saturday morning demanding removal and exemplary punishment of the headmaster at Sakhipur Secondary School due to his alleged corruption, mismanagement and irregularities.

Sakhipur UP Chairman Saiful Islam, General Secretary of Sakhipur Mor Bazar Samiti and former General Secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal Ebadul Islam, General Secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal Firoz Hossain Tuhin, BNP leader Moniruzzaman Moni, local UP member Rabiul Islam, Nazim Uddin, former student of the school Ruhul Amin and Abdur Rahman among others took part in the human chain under the banner of ‘Local Union Basi’.

During the agitation, speakers brought various allegations including selling of the government books at black market and carrying recruitment business in the name of teachers and employees’ recruitment  against the headmaster Sheikh Touhiduzzaman Touhid flouting the rules and regulations.

The demonstrators complained that, the headmaster Touhid with the help of his close associate Faruk Hossain, also Peon of the school has been involved with various types of irregularities for long. But, no one of the teachers and employees of the institution dares to open their mouths against their illegal activities in fear of harassment.

At one stage on Thursday evening (January 30), students of the institution in collaboration with local residents detained them red-handed, while they were selling large quantity of the government books in the black market.

On information, Hazrat Ali, Officer in Charge of the local police station being directed by the UNO Asaduzzaman reached to the spot and seized the books. Then, those were returned to the school for distributing among the students.

But, no legal action has yet been taken against the involved persons in this connection.

While contacted, headmaster Sheikh Touhiduzzaman Touhid admitted the incident saying that, “The books were sold as old and expired books. But, there was a provision to sell the old books after taking approval from the authorities concerned. I have done a mistake that I didn’t take that approval from the authorities before selling those.”

The demonstrators urged the authorities concerned to take immediate action against the corrupt headmaster and his cohorts.
