Bangladeshi expatriates in the United States sent home the highest remittance amounting to 407.52 million US dollars in January, according to the latest Bangladesh Bank data.
The country received a total of $2.18 billion in remittances in January this year, the BB data revealed on Thursday.
The United Kingdom came in second with a little over $273.40 million in remittances sent to Bangladesh in the previous month.
The expatriates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the country which hosts most of the Bangladeshi migrant workers, sent around $271.60 million in remittances, putting the country in third place.
Expatriates in the United Arab Emirates sent the fourth highest remittance, a little over $249.50 million, to Bangladesh in January.
Bangladesh received $154.55 million in remittances from the expatriates in Malaysia, making it the fifth-highest remittance sender in the month.
The other top 10 countries for sending remittances to Bangladesh are Kuwait, Italy, Oman, Qatar, and Singapore in that order.
