At least 12 persons including journalist were injured in a factional clash between the two groups of local BNP in Shahzadpur.

The Daily Sky Shahzadpur Correspondent and Accountant of Shahzadpur Journalist Forum Selim Talukder also came under attack by the clashing people, while performing professional duty.

Two of the injured were admitted to local hospital, while rest others including journalist Selim Talukder and BNP Convention Preparation Committee member Golam Sarowar took first aids.

After the incident, both the groups through separate press conferences blamed each others for the incident.

Sources said, followers of Dr. M A Muhit take a stand at their party office on Saturday noon centering the visiting of BNP Convention Preparation Committee member Golam Sarowar.

A factional group attacked Golam Sarowar and his followers, while they reached near the party office that leads to the clash between the both groups.

Tense situation was prevailing in the area centering the incident. Surveillance has been beefed up in the area on behalf of the police to avert further untoward incident, police said.

On the other hand, agitation has been spread out among the journalists and civil society members over the attack of on duty journalist.

Leaders and members of different journalists’ organizations including Shahzadpur Journalists Forum condemned the attack incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the attackers.

Aslam Ali, Officer in Charge of Shahzapur police station said, “Legal action would be taken, if any written complaint is submitted.”
