Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Deputy Commissioner in Sirajganj has provided financial assistance to Chandni Khatun, also a meritorious student, who has got admission chance to Faridpur Medical College despite her poverty.
A check of Tk 20,000 was handed over to her by the DC at his office on Sunday (February 9).
UNO of Shahzadpur Md. Kamruzzaman, Chandni’s father Md. Chand Ali, Journalist Rajib Ahmed Russell, Tahsin Noori Khokon, Abdullah Mahmud, Selim Talukder and Hiru Khandaker among others were also present in the event.
During the Cheque providing programme, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam highly praised the talent of Chandni, who is also daughter of a poor rickshaw puller in Madla village of Shahzadpur upazila in the district.
The DC said, “I am very happy to see the news that she got a chance to study at Faridpur Medical College despite her poverty. Her success has set up an exceptional example in the society. If other students pay attention in study, poverty will not be hindrance. Chandni is its clear example.”
It is mentionable that, a newspaper recently published a report titled “Shahzadpur rickshaw puller daughter’s dream of studying in medical college going to be fulfilled.”
The report revealed that Chandni, daughter of a poor rickshaw puller, has passed the medical entrance exam successfully, but her financial situation has created uncertainty whether she would be able to get admitted in the medical college.
After watching the news, the Deputy Commissioner has lent his helping hands to the poor student Chadni.
Earlier this, many other capable people including Pari foundation have contacted with the family of Chadni to lending their helping hands with the aim to ensure her admission.
On February 3, Sajid Moon, Office Secretary of Pari Foundation visited Chandni’s house and handed over the admission fee to her. He also assured to take all the responsibilities of her medical study.
Speaking to The Daily Sky, Chandni Khatun said, “I am very proud and grateful to all for the honour that the honourable Deputy Commissioner in Sirajganj has bestowed upon me today. My interest in education has increased a lot due to this inspiration. I am committed to provide free medical services to the poor and helpless in future after becoming a complete doctor.”
