Staff Correspondent:
Around 70-80% of corruption committed in government institutions is related to Public Procurement Related Rules (PPR) 2006 and PPR 2008, said Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen.
Addressing these issues can significantly reduce corruption in various government organisations, he added while speaking at the inauguration of a 15-day training programme for ACC officials on government procurement policy at the Engineering Staff College in Gazaria, Munshiganj, on Monday (February 10).
He further said, “There have been numerous reports of corruption in government procurement. Some goods have been purchased at abnormally high prices, while others have been of such low quality that they are unusable. This training programme aims to enhance the skills of ACC officials to address these issues.”
When asked whether the ACC would take action to bring back individuals who have fled abroad after committing corruption, he responded, “This is a long process, but we will make efforts to bring them back and ensure they face justice.”
The special guest at the event, Director General (Training & Information Technology) of ACC Akhtar Hossain, said, “Along with preventing corruption, we must also ensure that innocent individuals are not harassed.”
The event was presided over by Engr Mohammad Reazul Islam Rezu, president of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
It is to be noted that 30 ACC officials, including assistant directors and deputy assistant directors, are participating in this 15-day training programme on government procurement policy.
