The Bangladesh Army has strongly refuted a report published by India Today, calling it false and baseless.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the army said India Today had once again published a misleading article based on fabricated information regarding a routine meeting of the Bangladesh Army.

The report, titled “Bangladesh Army Holds Emergency Meeting Amid Possibility of Coup Against Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus,” is an example of journalistic malpractice and a concerning decline in the publication’s credibility, the statement said.

The army clarified that the article, which lacks credible sources or verifiable evidence, is a blatant attempt to spread baseless rumours. The claims of an “impending coup” are entirely untrue and deceptive.

“It is deeply troubling that India Today continues to publish sensationalist narratives without due diligence or a responsible commitment to journalistic integrity,” the statement read.

The army also pointed out that this is not the first time India Today has spread misinformation about the Bangladesh Army.

A similar report, published earlier this month, was debunked in a rejoinder issued on March 11.

The Bangladesh Army reaffirmed its commitment to serving the nation and upholding the principles of democracy and peace.

It urged all media outlets, including India Today, to engage in responsible journalism and refrain from publishing unfounded claims that create unnecessary divisions and mistrust between the people of both nations.
