Two children drowned in a pond at Monohorgonj upazila of Cumilla district on Friday.

The incident occurred at Hashem master bari at Borla village under North Howla union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Abdul, 3, son of Mainuddin, and Mahadi, 4, son of Mohinuddin of the same village and they were cousins.

According to locals, family members of the deceased were busy with cooking in the morning. During this time, they were playing at the yard of house.

While playing, they both fell into a nearby pond. About an hour later, their bodies were found floating in the pond.

Later, Family members rescued them and took to a nearby private hospital where the on-duty doctor declared both of them dead.

Monohorgonj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Bipul Chandra Dey stated that they heard about the incident and a police team visited the scene.
