The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) chief physician, Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, has expressed confidence that Taskin Ahmed can recover from his Achilles injury through rehabilitation, without requiring surgery.

Taskin, who has been struggling with Achilles tendinopathy since the West Indies series, is currently in England consulting with doctors about the injury. The condition ruled him out of the recently concluded Test series against Zimbabwe.

In recent years, Taskin has reached peak form as a fast bowler across formats, but a series of injuries have also plagued him.

“I met a doctor and a physio, and both of them believe the injury can be cured through rehab,” Taskin told journalist on Friday.

“I can’t say exactly how long the rehabilitation will take, but I won’t need surgery,” he added.

Dr. Debashish, who is accompanying Taskin in England, echoed the same sentiment.

“We are expecting a written rehabilitation plan soon. To prepare that plan, they need some additional information, which will require a few more scans,” Debashish told journalist.

“We’re consulting multiple experts, including a surgeon and a sports physio. We’re gathering opinions from everyone to determine the best way forward,” he said.

“A special scan will be conducted, and after evaluating all the findings, we will make a final decision. Our preference is to avoid surgery, and the combined plan will help guide us on how to proceed without it,” he explained.

“At this point, there is no pain, but since he hasn’t resumed bowling, we can’t fully assess his condition. The doctors are prioritising his long-term future and are cautious about taking any steps that might harm his career. Surgery always carries uncertainty,” he concluded.
