Students of nursing and midwifery staged demonstrations in Sirajganj town on Sunday demanding recognition of their courses as equivalent to graduation (pass) or degree (pass) courses.
They also held a sit in programme and formed a human chain at Baza’ar Station area in the town to press home their demands.
The Diploma in Nursing Midwifery Degree Bastyan Committee Sirajganj District Branch organized the protest rally and sit-in program.
They sat for an hour at the Bazar Station Mukto Mancha premises along with posters, banners and festoons. About a hundred students participated in the agitation by skipping classes and all their duties.
At the time, the students said that, for a long time, they have been demanding that their courses should be recognized as equivalent to graduation (pass) or degree (pass) courses. They warned of stricter programs if their demands are not met shortly.
The students also say that, their movement is to eliminate the complications and future uncertainty caused by discrimination, inconsistency and undervaluation in nursing education.
