The movement of trucks, lorries and covered vans on highways will be banned for six days, three days before and after Eid-ul-Azha, said adviser Fauzul Kabir Khan.

Only those carrying essential items will be allowed on the road, the Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Road Transport and Bridges and Railways said while talking to reporters after a preparatory meeting for Eid-ul-Azha at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital on Monday (May 12).

Markets of sacrificial animals can’t be set up on roads, he said, adding that the boundary will be fixed and monitored.

Strict monitoring will be done so that extra fare is not taken from the passengers during Eid. All-out efforts will be made to prevent extortion, he said.

Police have been asked to increase surveillance to prevent accidents.
