A Dhaka court has denied bail to former chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda in a case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station for allegedly holding a sham election and sedition.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefat Ullah passed the order on Wednesday.
On the evening of June 22, a mob detained Nurul at his residence in Sector 5 of Uttara, Dhaka, and turned him over to the police.
The following day, he was placed on a four-day remand.
After the initial remand, the court approved another four-day remand.
On Monday, Nurul gave a confessional statement in court, which it accepted.
Former bureaucrat KM Nurul Huda was sworn in as CEC on February 15, 2017.
He was the 12th chief election commissioner of Bangladesh.
Under his five-member commission, the 11th national parliamentary election in 2018 and all local elections during that period were conducted.
