A court in Cumilla today sentenced four people including wife Shahnaz Begum to death in the murder case of expatriate Abdul Jalil in Homna of the district. An accused named Shahjahan was acquitted in this case.
Judge Jahangir Hossain of the Fourth Court of Cumilla District and Sessions Judge gave the verdict on Wednesday (March 27) afternoon. All four convicts were absconding at the time of the verdict.
Prosecutor Abu Yusuf Munshi said that on 9 June 2013, Abdul Jalil went missing after leaving Homna for Dhaka. The next day, Jalil’s mutilated body was recovered from the roadside in the Baher Khola area.
The victim’s brother Tajul Islam filed a case with Homna police station accusing unknown persons in this incident.
Later, the investigating officer filed a chargesheet against Abdul Jalil’s wife Shahnaz Begum, Shahjahan, Abdul Quddus Mia, Abdul Khalek, and Rajib. After a long investigation and hearing, the court handed over this verdict on Wednesday.
