Shakib Al Hasan, former captain and star all-rounder of the Bangladesh national cricket team, recently shared his approach to dealing with controversies.

Currently sidelined from the national team setup due to political circumstances, Shakib opened up during a recent event in the United States.

Known for being at the center of several controversies throughout his career, Shakib has consistently shown resilience by not allowing them to affect his performance. He explained that his strategy is to ignore matters beyond his control and focus on what he can manage.

“I actually don’t even try to handle controversies. I feel it’s just a waste of my own time. If something is not in your control, you won’t be able to manage it no matter how much you try. When something is within your control, only then you can try to manage or take charge of it,” said Shakib.

Although absent from the national team, Shakib remains a prominent figure in franchise cricket. He was recently picked by Dubai Capitals for the upcoming Global Super League in Guyana. Additionally, Lahore Qalandars selected him for the Pakistan Super League, and Antigua and Barbuda Falcons signed him for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025.

Shakib also shared the secret behind maintaining his fitness at the age of 38.

“I don’t exactly remember when I last ate rice, bread, or any kind of sweet food,” Shakib concluded.

Dubai Capitals, Shakib’s team, will kick off their Global Super League campaign on Thursday, 10 July.
