A security force of 10,000 police and APBn personnel will be deployed for the funeral procession of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced on Tuesday. Army personnel will also be stationed at key points.

The details were finalised at a law and order committee meeting chaired by Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. “Although there is no specific threat, maximum security will be ensured,” Alam told reporters at the home ministry, adding the DMP commissioner confirmed the deployment.

The press secretary stated the funeral and burial would be conducted with full state honours. The procession will travel from Evercare Hospital to the Parliament’s South Plaza for the funeral prayer, which will be attended by the chief adviser, the advisory council, and diplomats.

Paying tribute, Alam described Khaleda Zia as an uncompromising leader. “Bangladesh lost its democracy repeatedly. Each time, we regained it through her robust role and steadfast leadership,” he said. “Her work for the country is incomparable.”
