Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested a youth in connection with the murder of two members of the same family in Bogura.

Saikat Hasan was arrested at around 4:30am on Thursday (July 16) from the road adjacent to the passport office in the Khandar area of the Sadar upazila, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of DB Police Iqbal Bahar.

Saikat initially confessed to his involvement in the murder and said that he committed them after his love and marriage proposals were spurned.

DB is scheduled to go to recover the sharp weapon used in the murder at a pond in the Harigari Islampur area after 12pm on Thursday said Bahar.

Earlier, on July 16, the two women – Laili Beowa, 83, and Habiba Yasmin, 21 – were hacked to death, and another person, Bonna, was stabbed in the Islampur Harigari area of the town.

Bonna’s cousin Md Khokon said Saikat, son of their neighbour Sohel, often harassed her and proposed marriage. But Bonna’s family refused and protested against the harassment. After that, Saikat, along with 7-8 other miscreants, entered the house at around 8pm, stabbed the three women and fled.
