Gopalganj Correspondent:
The four individuals killed during violent clashes in Gopalganj on Wednesday were buried without post-mortem examinations, raising questions about procedural irregularities.
Garment trader Dipto Saha was cremated at the municipal crematorium on Wednesday night, while Ramzan Kazi, a tile worker’s assistant, was buried after Esha prayers the same night. Mobile phone trader Sohel Rana and crockery store employee Imon Talukder were buried Thursday morning at the municipal graveyard.
The city turned into a conflict zone throughout the day as clashes erupted around a rally organized by the National Citizens’ Party (NCP). The violence centered near the Municipal Park and launch terminal, resulting in four fatalities and over 100 injuries, including nine with gunshot wounds.
Witnesses and family members claim the deceased were shot by law enforcement. Hospital sources confirmed gunshot wounds on the bodies. However, no inquest reports were filed, and the bodies were released to families without autopsies.
The deceased were identified as Ramzan Kazi, 19, Sohel Rana, 35, Dipto Saha, 30, and Imon Talukder, 24.
Dr. Jibitesh Biswas, Superintendent of Gopalganj General Hospital, confirmed that four deceased individuals were received and three critically injured patients were transferred to Dhaka for advanced care.
One of the injured, Sumon Biswas, a driver by profession, is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds to his abdomen and finger.
