Four people, including three members of a family, were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van in Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila on Friday.

The accident took place around noon in the Barachala area of Fulbaria union.

The deceased were identified as Zahidul Islam, 35, his wife Nasrin Nahar, 30, and their son—residents of Sangishwarghat area in Bogura’s Dhunat upazila—and Shafiqul Islam, 55, of the Mawna area in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila.

Quoting locals, police said the auto-rickshaw was heading towards Kaliakair from Maona when it collided with a covered van coming from the opposite direction.

Two people died on the spot, while three others were rushed to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where physicians declared two of them dead.

Abdul Mannan, officer-in-Charge of Kaliakair Police Station, confirmed the incident and said legal action is underway.
