A devastating fire that broke out at Adarshgram in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district on Sunday gutted 10 houses leaving many people homeless.

Md. Asaduzzaman, official of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Ullapara said that, the fire originated from an electrical short circuit in the Adarshgram built with government assistance. Within moments, the fire spread to the surrounding houses and burnt those to ashes.

On information, a fire service team reached to the spot and brought the fire under control, but by then 10 houses had completely burnt to ashes. It is initially estimated that the damage is around Tk 1.2 million.

Ratna Begum, one of the victims, said, “We are landless families. We were living in houses provided by the government. But, everything has been burnt to ashes in the devastating fire. Now we have no other shelter except under the open sky.”

Ullapara Upazila Executive Officer Abu Saleh Mohammad Hasnat visited the spot after receiving the information. At that time, he assured that necessary assistances including tin, rice and money will be provided to the affected families for their survival.
