Faruk-e-Azam, advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, has confirmed that there will be no government job quota for those recognised as “July Fighters”.

He made the remarks at a press conference held at the Secretariat on Monday.

“The July Fighters will get jobs according to their qualifications,” he said.

“Our ministry has set a programme for their rehabilitation. Accordingly, the ministry will take all the necessary action. This programme does not include providing flats or ensuring quotas in jobs.”

Faruk said each family of those killed in the July Uprising is being provided Tk 3 million in the form of savings certificates.

Of that, Tk 772 million has already been distributed in savings certificates of Tk 1 million each in the 2024-25 fiscal years.

In cases where there is a dispute over whether the wife or the parents should receive the support, the inheritance will be distributed according to the law, he said.

Asked how the July Fighters are being rehabilitated, the advisor said a formal programme is in place.

“Rehabilitation can be done in several ways,” he said.

“They will be trained and rehabilitated according to their qualifications. If they want to earn a living by raising chickens, animals, or fish for self-employment, the government will provide such facilities.”

Faruk also presented data on those killed and injured in the July Uprising.

He said the welfare of the families of the martyrs and injured, along with administrative responsibility for related matters, has been entrusted to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

To oversee the process, a new entity called the “July Uprising Directorate” was established on Apr 28.

Its responsibilities include finalising a complete list of martyrs and the injured, arranging medical expenses for the wounded, and coordinating the rehabilitation and financial assistance of affected families.

The government formally recognised those killed in the July Uprising as “July Martyrs” and the injured as “July Fighters” under the Welfare and Rehabilitation of Families of Martyrs and July Fighters in the July Uprising Ordinance, 2025.

According to a list from the Health Services Department, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs published the names of 834 martyrs in a gazette on Jan 15, and an additional 10 on Jun 30, bringing the total to 844.

The gazette also classified the July Fighters into three categories based on the severity of their injuries – 493 in category A, 908 in category B, and 1,642 in category C.
