The Teesta was flowing along the danger level on Sunday morning, August 3, as water rose due to incessant rain and onrusing water from upstream.
Around 9:00am, the water flow of Teesta was recorded at 52.15cm at Dalia point in Hatibandha, which stands at the danger mark, and the river was flowing 70cm below the danger level at Kawnia point, while the Dharla was flowing 1.97cm below the danger mark at Shimulbari point, according to the Water Development Board.
Due to the water rise, several low-lying areas of Lalmonirhat’s Patgram, Hatibandha, Kaliganj, Aditmari, and Sadar upazilas are in danger of being inundated.
The water flow was recorded 23cm below the danger level at Dalia point at about 6:00pm on Saturday, August 2, and the same increased significantly in 18 hours.
Sunil Kumar Roy, executive engineer of the Water Development Board, Lalmonirhat, said, “We are monitoring the situation. We have requested the people of the coastal area to be cautious.”
