The elected MPs of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance were sworn in at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday.

The oath-taking began at 12:25pm.

Newly elected independent MPs including Rumeen Farhana also have taken oath.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath in the Jatiya Sangsad Oath Room under Article 148(2)(a) of the Constitution.

This oath ceremony was conducted by Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Maula. She said that Jamaat leaders would take oath both as members of parliament and as members of the Constitutional Reform Commission.

Accordingly, the Jamaat-led alliance leaders took oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council. This oath ceremony was held shortly after they were sworn in as MPs.

However, no independent MPs were seen there.

In the 13th parliamentary election, candidates of this alliance won a total of 77 seats. As a result, for the first time in history, Jamaat is entering parliament as the main opposition party.

Earlier in the morning, BNP’s MPs took oath as members of parliament but did not take oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Commission. BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed announced before the ceremony that, since the matter is not included in the Constitution, they would not take this oath as per party decision.

After this news broke, Jamaat declared that if BNP did not take oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Commission, the Jamaat alliance would not take any oath either. Subsequently, the alliance leaders sat for an emergency meeting in the Jatiya Sangsad Oath Room.

This created a kind of crisis over Jamaat’s oath-taking, sparking discussions across social media and mainstream media.

Following the meeting, it was announced that Jamaat alliance leaders will take oath both as MPs and as members of the Constitutional Reform Commission.
