A “light” earthquake originated in the border area of Sunamganj on Thursday afternoon, shaking parts of the country, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.
It originated at 12:46pm in Chhatak of Sunamganj, 187 kilometres away from the Met office in Dhaka, the Meteorological Department said. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said the epicentre was in the India-Bangladesh border area of the district.
The epicenter was 626 kilometres beneath the surface.
