Hatikumrul Highway Thana police in a drive on early Friday seized two mini drum trucks from Mannan Nagor area on the Dhaka-Natore highway under Tarash upazila in Sirajganj district on charge of making the highway muddy and risky for vehicular movements by felling soil.
Later, the truck owners were fined at Tk 70,000 by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Tarash through a mobile court.
Islmail Hossain, Officer in Charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police station in a WhatsApp message informed that, the two trucks had been carrying muddy soil extracted from an arable land during digging for pond secretly at the dark of night without approval of the authorities concerned.
On information, a team of police reached to Mannan Nagor area and arrested the trucks’ drivers and seized the trucks, while those carrying muddy soil through the highway. Due to falling of soil on the highway from the trucks while carrying, the highway getting muddy and risky for vehicular movements that may cause of fatal accidents.
Hearing the matter at morning, Nusrat Zahan, UNO of Tarash visited Hatikumrul Highway Police Station and imposed fine at Tk 70,000 to the trucks’ owners according to the Balumohal and Soil Management Act, 2010 by setting up a mobile court there.
The OC said, as per the directives of the high-ups, no kind of chaos will be tolerated on the highway during the Eid holidays. This is why, police have already tightened security and beefed-up surveillance on the highway ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
