Bollywood actress and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has stirred fresh controversy by calling dating apps the “sewer of society” and sharply criticizing the nature of modern relationships. In a recent interview, the outspoken actress was asked whether she had ever considered using a dating app to find a partner. Her answer was emphatic.
“I never wanted to be on a dating app. It’s like the sewer of society. Everyone on these platforms is looking for something—some have financial needs, others physical,” she said.
Ranaut, known as one of Bollywood’s most candid voices, expressed her disillusionment with what she described as a transactional culture of love. “In today’s world, both men and women want something, but how do we even know what those things are? Should relationships be built in a respectful way, or should we keep going out every night to find someone? That’s the reality today—and it’s terrifying,” she added.
The actress, who has remained single for most of her public life, did not hold back in expressing disdain for dating app users, suggesting they turn to apps only because they’ve failed to find meaningful connections in educational or professional environments.
“You won’t find someone like me on a dating app. You’ll find people who couldn’t do anything in life—who didn’t find anyone at college, in the office, or through family. Think for yourself: how poor is your character that you’ve ended up there?” she said.
Kangana also voiced support for more traditional ways of finding a partner, such as arranged marriages or meeting through trusted environments. “You can find good people in offices, colleges, or through your parents. That’s a far better way to form meaningful relationships.”
The actress’s comments have drawn both support and criticism online. While some praised her bold stance on values and tradition, others accused her of being out of touch with the evolving dynamics of relationships in the digital age.
