Ex-law minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed no more

Senior Supreme Court lawyer and former law minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed passed on Sunday. He was 88.

He breathed his last at 6pm, while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical Hospital in the capital.

His son, Barrister Mahbub Shafique, confirmed the matter.

“My sister is currently in Malaysia. The time for the janaza will be fixed after she returns,” he said.

Barrister Shafique Ahmed had been admitted to the hospital on April 11 due to liver-related complications.

Barrister Shafique Ahmed served as the minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs in the Awami League government from 2009 to 2014 as a technocrat. He also served as president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council.
