Allegation of stealing skeletons from seven graves of a graveyard in Nagorkoyra-Kristopur village of Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj district has been raised.
The incident has grown grave-concern and panic among the relatives of the deceased as well as local residents. They urged the law enforcers to take necessary steps to stop such horrible incident in future. They also demanded immediate arrest and punishment to the culprits, who were involved with such incident.
Such horrible incident came to the notice, when relatives of a deceased went to visit the grave on Friday morning. He found that the grave was excavated and all the skeletons of his relative were vanished from the grave. He informed the matter to locals.
Nazrul Islam, one of the relatives of the deceased at Kristapur Koyra village said, “I buried my son named Rubel in the grave two years ago. On Friday morning, when I came to visit the grave, I saw that the soil of the grave had been removed. Then, I saw that my son’s skeletons were not inside the grave. These were stolen by unknown criminals. It has broken my heart seriously.”
Making the same claim, Liton Sarkar, another relative of a deceased said, “I buried my father Harun-ur-Rashid in this graveyard eight months ago. Someone dug up that grave and took the skeletons away.”
According to the allegations of the villagers, skeletons of at least seven graves of the graveyard have been stolen recently.
The relatives of the victims demanded identification of the involved in the incident and ensuring of exemplary punishment to them.
Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ullapara Model Police Station, said, “We visited the scene after receiving the news. The relatives claim that the incident of skeleton theft took place sometime on Thursday night. We are investigating into the incidents.
If we can identify any of the accused, legal action would be taken in this regard. However, none of the victim’s family has yet been filed any written complaint with the police station in this regard, he added.
