Campaign to resist plastic pollution held in Sirajganj

Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), Sirajganj district unit on Tuesday organized a colourful campaign on resisting plastic pollution to protect the people and environment from its harmful impact.

Students of Victoria High School in the town took part in the programme actively at the institution’s own auditorium.

Sajedul Islam, Headmaster of Victoria High School delivered his important speech on the role of new generation to protect the environment by preventing use of one time usable plastic goods like water bottle.

Saiful Islam, Field Officer of BELA Rajshahi unit disclosed about several scenarios on ‘Plastic Pollution’ across the country.

He said, “About 3000 tonnes of plastic wastes are polluting the rivers, canals and our lands everyday that posing serious threat to the environment and public health.”

Kamrunnahar, Chief Executive of Sukher Alo Sangstha said, “There is no alternative of awareness about plastic pollution and its bad impact. All people from the family to society should participate such programme in protecting our environment from the plastic pollution. We need to be aware about massive use of plastic goods.”

Aslam Sheikh, Executive Director of Model Development Programme (MDP), senior teacher of school Jesmin Sultana, Saiful Islam and assistant teacher Rashedul Hasan among others participated in the event.
