Sarjis says over 1,000 applications were submitted for local polls

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced an initial list of 100 candidates for Upazila and municipality elections as part of its preparations to contest local government polls.

Sarjis Alam, the party’s chief organiser for the northern region, unveiled the names during a press conference held at the NCP central office in Banglamotor on Sunday afternoon.

He said more than 1,000 applications had been submitted to contest local government elections under the party banner.

“From those applications, we are initially announcing the names of 100 candidates,” Sarjis said.

“We hope to announce another 100 candidates in the second phase on the 20th of this month before Eid. This process of announcing names will continue.”

On Mar 29, the NCP announced candidates for mayoral posts in five city corporations, including former interim government student advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain as the party’s candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation.

Candidates for Dhaka North, Cumilla, Rajshahi and Sylhet city corporations were also announced that day.

The latest announcement comes as a continuation of that process before the local government elections.
