Thieves broke into the vault of Islami Bank’s agent banking branch in Shailkupa Upazila early Thursday morning and stole approximately Tk 2 lakh.

The burglary was discovered when staff arrived at the branch, located on the second floor of a market building near the Garaganj Bus Stand Mosque.

Quoting locals,Shailkupa Police StationOfficer-in-Charge Masum Khan said that the suspects used a ladder to climb onto the building and then cut through the metal grille of a window to gain entry. The branch reportedly lacked alarm systems and on-site security personnel at the time of the break-in.

“We received a formal complaint regarding the incident,” the OC said. “The vault was forcibly opened, and a significant amount of cash was stolen. The CCTV recording device was also taken, indicating the perpetrators had some knowledge of the security setup.”

Police have completed their crime scene inspection and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits. The OC added that legal action will be taken against those involved.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of cash and sensitive data at smaller banking outlets, which often operate with limited infrastructure and oversight.
