Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in collaboration with local administration conducted an eviction drive in Sirajganj on Monday, demolishing about 200 illegal structures from the both sides of about 6 km Nalka-Sirajganj regional road.
The operation, led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Afifan Nazmu, began at around 10:00am from the Parvinmorh nearby Deputy Commissioner’s office in the town.
During the drive, officials from the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), district and upazila administrations and AC-land office were also present. Besides, a large contingent of police personnel assisted the drive.
Imran Farhan Sumel, Executive Engineer of RHD said, “The government acquired the necessary land under the road widening project and provided appropriate compensation to the affected landowners by 2022. However, the land owners did not hand over their lands to the authorities concerned even after fully payment of compensation. Consequently, this operation was conducted to evict the illegal structures from the lands. During the drive, tin-shed rooms, shops, concrete buildings and others installations were removed.
Afifan Nazmu, Assistant Commissioner (land) said, “Our main goal is transforming Sirajganj to a modern and livable town. To implement the goal, we need huge development in the town and its surrounding areas. For the interest of road extension, we need the land and this is why, eviction drive turned to an emergency. Such drive will continue in future.”
