MP Amir Hamza secures bail in 2 defamation cases in Sirajganj after surrender

A court in Sirajganj in two separate orders on Sunday noon granted bail to the Parliament Member for Kushtia-3 Constituency and Jama’at leader Amir Hamza.

Sumon Karmaker, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of the court issued the orders after he was appeared before the court along with bail petitions.

Additional police and RAB forces were deployed to the premises of court centering the arrival of Jama’at leader and Parliament Member Amir Hamza.

He entered into the court at 2:30pm amid tight security and left the scene at around 3:00pm after securing bails in two separate cases, court sources said.

Abu Taleb, Lawyer of the accused said, Amir Hamza was on bail granted by the High Court in a defamation case filed against him for making derogatory remarks about Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and a member of the BNP Standing Committee. Today, he appeared before the court and sought bails. After hearing, the court granted him bail.

At the same time, Mufti Amir Hamza sought bail in another case lodged for making insulting remarks against former President Ziaur Rahman’s younger son late Arafat Rahman Koko. The judge also granted him bail in that case as well.

Incidentally, Sirajganj Lawyers Association General Secretary Humayun Kabir Kornel filed a defamation case against Mufti Amir Hamza on April 2 for allegedly calling Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku an atheist and Islamophobic.

On the same day, the court issued a summons and ordered him to appear on April 21. But, an arrest warrant was also issued against him for not appearing in court on the scheduled date.

Later, the court asked to publish a notice on newspaper against the accused, if he not to appear before the court on May 17.

Earlier, District BNP Joint Secretary VP Shamim Khan filed a defamation case against Mufti Amir Hamza in Sirajganj Sadar Amli Court on January 1, 2026, for making slanderous remarks about former President Ziaur Rahman’s younger son late Arafat Rahman Koko. The court had issued a summons against the defendant in that case.

In addition, BNP leader Advocate Nazmul Islam filed one more defamation case of Tk 100 crore against Amir Hamza in Sirajganj Sadar Amli Court on March 30 for allegedly calling Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku an atheist and Islamophobic. The court has also asked PBI to investigate the incident.
