Md Sarwoer Alam, who had been serving as Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate in Sylhet has been withdrawn from his post and attached to the Ministry of Public Administration.
The ministry issued a circular in this regard on Sunday without providing any reason for the decision.
The order comes amid widespread discussion over measures taken by Sarwoer regarding the management of funds at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shahporan (R) in Sylhet.
According to the circular, the order was issued in the public interest.
While serving as a senior assistant secretary, Sarwoer earned praise for anti-adulteration drives conducted with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
On 9 November 2020, he was transferred to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Having been deprived of promotion, Sarwoer was promoted to the rank of deputy secretary following the political changeover in 2024.
On 18 August 2025, he was appointed as Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sylhet.
